Advocating for the Washington National Guard
NGAW was formed with one goal in mind - work with the Washington National Guard Soldier and protect their benefits by advocating for their rights in State Legislation. We work to transform our members' ideas into legislative action and provide our members unified representation before members of State Legislation and their staff on the association’s legislative priorities.
Legislative Agenda Starts With You
We listen to our members. Our lobbying efforts begin with a member's initiative. These initiatives that originate within our state association are then brought to the national conferences to begin the resolutions process. Delegates from all 54 States and territories bring their initiatives to the annual NGAUS or EANGUS General Conference to debate and approve resolutions, which prioritizes for the next congressional cycle. The Legislative Priorities are a blueprint for initiatives and member action.
NGAW Petitions State Legislature
The NGAW legislative department, which is the lobbying branch of the association, presents the association’s legislative priorities directly to members of State Legislation and their staff. NGAW staff works with stakeholders and industry representatives to unite support around common goals.
Legislative Alerts Highlight Timely Issues Requiring Action
When issues of importance to the National Guard heat up on Capitol Hill, NGAW sends out Legislative Alerts with details about the issue at hand and actions you can take, such as contacting your members of State Legislation and Congress to provide input and support on legislation under consideration.
NGAW Provides Tools for Grassroots Advocacy
Each Legislative Alert contains a sample letter that you can send to your Congressional representatives or customize it as you like using our Write to Congress feature. For current legislative alerts, click here.
Member Action Strengthens Our Voice
Because NGAW members are located in over 100 communities across Washington State, and in every Congressional district, NGAW speaks with a unified voice and has the influence of a major voting bloc. NGAW's team of professionals knows the legislative process, the key players and how to ensure the voice of the National Guard is heard, but we are most successful when our members are engaged and active on the issues.
Being a member of NGAW makes it easy for you to stay informed and jump into action when needed to contact your State representative or on Capitol Hill. Together we can be successful in lobbying for modernized equipment, increased readiness and improved benefits.
Without your membership, our voice is diminished at both the State and National level. We urgently need your help and support. Join today and keep our Guard strong!
